To celebrate Tourbillon Day on June 26, high-end replica watches manufacturer Breguet unveiled a special new product. The Classic Double Tourbillon “Quai de l’Horloge” 5345 is the talk of the town.
Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823), the founder of the Breguet House and one of the most important figures in watchmaking history, learned the basics of watchmaking in his hometown of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and then lived alone in the center of Europe. It advanced to Paris, France, and opened its first workshop and store, named Quai de l’Horloge, on the dockside of l’Île de la Cité (Ile de la Cité) in 1775, marking the beginning of its legend. Numerous inventions were born from his hands, but the most famous and groundbreaking one was the tourbillon, which means ‘whirlwind’ in French. It was invented on 7 Messidor 9, 9th year of the French Republic, in June 1801. The first related patent was obtained from the French Ministry of the Interior on the 26th, and it has been inherited to this day.
Since the end of the 20th century, tourbillons have been introduced not only by Breguet but also by many other maisons. Because of its complexity, originality, and aesthetics, it is known as Haute Horlogerie, or the flower of high watchmaking, and has established itself as a symbolic complication that demonstrates the brand’s technological prowess. However, no matter what, the tourbillon watch presented by Breguet, the ‘prime of the tourbillon’, is unique from the weight that its name gives. Breguet, which declared June 26th every year as ‘Tourbillon Day’ through its official SNS account, simultaneously pays tribute to the excellence and craftsmanship of Abraham-Louis Breguet and his masterpiece tourbillon through the new Classic Double Tourbillon Quadology 5345. It is expressing.
The new 2024 Classic Double Tourbillon Quadology 5345 will be presented in a rose gold case, following the previous platinum version released with the same reference in 2020. The iconic case with fluted sides has a diameter of 46mm and a thickness of 16.8mm, the same size as the previous model, and the in-house manual caliber 588N, composed of a total of 738 parts and 81 jewels, beats powerfully.
Since the tourbillon cage operates with twice as much movement as a single tourbillon cage – controlled by independent barrels and gear trains, each rotating once per minute at a frequency of 2.5 Hertz – it not only more actively cancels out the effects of gravity, but also counteracts the effects of gravity. By connecting them with a single bridge and controlling each other’s movements, they maintain a constant vibration angle and enable more accurate timekeeping. And another blue open-tipped hand (aka Breguet hand), superimposed on the bridge connecting the two tourbillon cages, marks the minutes. The 588N caliber guarantees a power reserve of approximately 50 hours when fully wound.
